Product Details

PP Nonwoven Fabric Rolls

Choosing a filter material for your tea bag line involves more than checking a spec sheet. You need to know how the material behaves on your machine, how it handles during storage, and whether your end customers will accept the compostability claims on your packaging.

We supply PLA non-woven fabric in two weights for ultrasonic triangle tea bag machines. The material is made from polylactic acid, a biopolymer produced from renewable plant starches through fermentation and polymerization. We do not produce the raw resin or spin the fibers ourselves; that is done by specialized biopolymer manufacturers. What we do in our Hangzhou workshop is take the finished PLA non-woven fabric, slit it to the widths you need, inspect every roll for consistency, and package it so it reaches your production line ready to run.

The two weights we stock are 21 GSM and 25 GSM. Both work on ultrasonic sealing equipment. The 21 GSM gives you a lighter, faster-flowing filter suited to finer cut teas. The 25 GSM is slightly denser, which helps if you are packing herbal blends with larger leaf pieces or if you want a little more body in the cup. Widths run from 120mm to 180mm as standard, and we can slit custom widths if your machine calls for something specific.

Why Choose Our PLA Non‑woven Tea Bag Material

Processed in Our Hangzhou Workshop

We source finished PLA non-woven fabric and process it in our workshop - slitting to width, inspecting each roll, and packaging for direct use on your ultrasonic tea bag machine.

Same Widths as Nylon and PET

Switch between materials without changing your forming station or packaging artwork. Simplifies inventory and reduces retooling downtime.

Two GSM Options

21 GSM for lighter, faster extraction with finer teas. 25 GSM for denser filtration and herbal blends. Both ultrasonic-compatible and available in 120-180mm widths.

DIN EN 13432 Certified

Meets compostable packaging standards. Decomposes into CO2 and water under industrial composting conditions within 90-180 days. SGS documentation available on request.

Applications

Ideal Uses for Our PLA Tea Bag Material

01.

Triangle Tea Bags

Primary format for ultrasonic machines. Pyramid shape allows good water circulation; PLA non-woven holds its shape during the 2-5 minute brew.

02.

Herbal Infusions

25 GSM suits chamomile, peppermint, rooibos with larger particles. Health-conscious consumers respond well to plant-based filter claims.

03.

Cold Brew Tea

Durable in refrigerated water over 8-12 hours. 25 GSM recommended for longer contact times without over-extraction.

04.

Dual Product Lines

Run compostable and standard lines on the same machine. Same roll widths mean no retooling between production runs.

FAQ

22.webp

01.What is the difference between PLA non-woven and PLA mesh?

PLA mesh is a knitted or woven fabric with visible open pores. It is more transparent and allows faster airflow. PLA non-woven is a carded and bonded fiber web with a softer, more uniform surface. It looks and feels more like paper. Both are compostable, but they suit different visual preferences and filtration needs.

02.Can PLA non-woven be used on heat-seal machines?

No. PLA non-woven is designed for ultrasonic welding only. The material does not form reliable seals under standard heat-seal bar temperatures. If your machine only has a heat-seal station, we can discuss alternatives such as standard non-woven or filter paper.

03.How does PLA non-woven compare to nylon mesh for tea brewing?

Nylon mesh is more transparent and has a more open structure, which gives faster water flow and a clearer view of the tea leaves inside the bag. PLA non-woven is slightly denser and more uniform, which can slow extraction slightly and produce a less cloudy brew. Nylon tolerates higher heat, up to about 220 degrees Celsius, while PLA softens around 170 degrees. For standard tea brewing at 80 to 100 degrees, both materials perform well.

04.Is PLA non-woven compostable in a backyard compost bin?

PLA is compostable, but backyard conditions vary. Under industrial composting at 58 degrees Celsius or higher, it typically breaks down within 90 to 180 days as certified under DIN EN 13432. In a home compost pile, decomposition takes longer - often several months to a year, depending on temperature, moisture, and microbial activity. We advise brands to qualify their claims based on the composting infrastructure available in their target market.

05.Do you offer sample rolls for testing?

Yes. We provide sample rolls at no charge for material quality verification and equipment compatibility testing. The customer covers shipping costs. We strongly recommend running a sample on your actual machine with your actual tea before placing a bulk order.

06.What is the minimum order quantity?

For standard widths - 120, 140, 160, or 180mm - in either 21 or 25 GSM, the minimum is typically one carton. For custom widths or pre-tagged rolls, the MOQ may be higher depending on the setup involved. Send us your requirements and we will confirm the exact MOQ and lead time.
